Cromwell Configuration

The interior of the Cromwell was functional with the driver forward in the right side of the hull and separated from the hull machine gunner by a steel bulkhead, while the commander, gunner and loader occupied the three-man turret with the engine positioned in the rear. In February 1944, final specifications for the Cromwell were issued, including the addition of 6mm (0.23in) of armour below the compartments housing the crew and the welding of all rivets on the front hull and the seams of the turret’s steel plating to improve structural integrity and aid in the tank’s water proofing.
